Hi everyone:
This is the last post of the year and I think it’s time to evaluate the last 12 months, after saying that
we close the first round of the Premiership with two more points than the last season thanks to the two home wins and the draw at the Emirates in the past week.During 2013, in general, I’ve been lucky with the injuries (apart from the preseason, when I injured my left quadriceps) and, for the second time in a row, we won a continental trophy: this time the Europa League. Also, we finished the Premiership in the Champions zone following a good streak in the last few weeks. From a personal point of view it was an honor to be included in the Premier League Best XI after a season that was, probably, the best one in my career.
In the last 12 months
I also visited Brazil for the first time in my life, a country with great passion for football. As you know it was during
theConfederations Cup, when we lost the final against the host team. Also during this year
I’ve gone through some situations in my professional career that I’d never lived before, and thanks to them I keep feeling stronger and I believe in myself even more. Looking back and checking the statistics, I think I have played around 56 games through this calendar year. Frankly, it’s not bad. In every one of them I have tried to give all I had for my team or the National squad and
to become a better footballer, which is the main goal in my career. Obviously you may win, lose or draw, but always being positive.
And I realize how privileged I am for doing what I like the most: playing football. So, despite in the last part of the year certain things haven’t been the way I wanted, 2013 has been, again, a good year. One of many so far

On these dates
I believe everybody is guessing how 2014 is going to be. From a professional perspective, I hope to play many games, even more than in 2013, because that is what really makes me happy. I hope to be lucky with injuries and, of course,
I hope to enjoy myself on the pitch with victories and trophies. Playing the World Cup and winning it would make 2014 another unforgettable year in my life. This will be one of the most important moments in the next months.
And from a personal point of view,
I hope to keep having wonderful people around me that make my life better.Yet there is something I hope will remain the same for years: your support.
Day after day, especially in tough moments, your encouragement makes me feel strong and try to do things better and better. Your messages of affection and your photos coming from all over the world are amazing and make me realize how big football is; how, through a sport, you can make so many people happy…
A million thanks to all. I hope this ‘energy’ you send to me will last forever.I say goodbye wishing you a Happy New Year. May your wishes and goals come true. And the most important thing: be happy!
Big hug,
Juan
